“One day is never the same as the next, it’s never boring”
– Jenny, Riverside
“Before teaching I was a cabinet maker, making bespoke kitchens, bathrooms and other furniture.”
“I always liked the idea of teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. I started working at the college as a joinery technician and was able to have a front row seat watching other tutors teach. As a woman in a very male focused industry, it gave me the motivation to promote trades as an option for young female students who may not have even considered it before”.
“As a teacher, one day is never the same as the next, it’s never boring. There is an opportunity to progress and there is lots of support available to do that. The pension is good, and the holidays aren’t bad either”.
“I was able to work and gain my first teaching qualification at the same time.”
“I am currently studying to gain my certificate in education alongside teaching full time. My tutors are fantastic and have been very supportive throughout this process”.
“The best part of teaching is when you see that lightbulb moment happen for a student, especially for those who may have been struggling. It’s very rewarding”
“In the future, I would like to also complete my assessor’s qualification. It would also be great to go into high schools and promote joinery/trades to young people, especially girls and become more involved in the promotion of women in the industry”.
